Nintendo will announce the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year or before March 2025, as revealed by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa in his post on the social media platform X on Tuesday.
"We will make an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It has been over nine years since we announced the arrival of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015," Furukawa wrote in a post on the X account @NintendoCoLtd.
Furukawa added that Nintendo will not disclose details about the successor to the Nintendo Switch at the upcoming Nintendo Direct event scheduled for June. The event will focus on introducing a lineup of new games for the Nintendo Switch console to be released in the second half of 2024.
So, Nintendo console fans will have to wait patiently to learn more about this latest console at least until the second half of 2024.
"We will hold a Nintendo Direct this June announcing the software lineup for the Nintendo Switch for the second half of 2024, but please note that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will not be mentioned during that presentation," wrote Furukawa.
As of March 2024, the Nintendo Switch console has sold 141 million units worldwide, making it the third best-selling gaming console to date after the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS.
According to Engadget's report on Tuesday, the strong sales of the Nintendo Switch are driven by popular game titles released on the console such as "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" and "Super Mario Bros. Wonder".
Nintendo will release a number of new games on the Nintendo Switch this year such as "Paper Mario," scheduled for release on May 23, 2024, and "Luigi's Mansion 2" on June 27, 2024.
